Cyclists need more than bollards and wide pavements

Published: 7 May, 2010

• I AM absolutely flabbergasted at Westminster’s approach towards the capital’s cyclists.
One would have to be a cloth-eared emu with agoraphobia not to have noticed the vast increase in the number of cyclists on the roads in the last few years.
And this is how this increase in demand in responded to – wider pavements and some bollards, with £30million?
Clearly these are incidental.
As usual, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin and elsewhere leave London’s cycling provisions floundering dismally behind.
At least we know where this country’s priorities lie. Typical Westminster, creating an oil slick then pointing at the rainbow as if it makes things better. I despair.
