New spin on aggression

Published: 21 May 2010

• THE review of Lebanon by Dan Carrier (May 14) suggests the film is an anti-war statement.

This is both naive and misleading. The Israeli Film Fund with its new wave is clearly rewriting history putting a new spin on Israel’s escalating aggression. The Israeli army and government are rebranded by films such as Lebanon and Waltz with Bashir as being humane and deeply tortured by their actions. Surely having one’s cake and eating it.

As long as Israel maintains its illegal siege on Gaza, should we welcome films such as Lebanon and the propaganda they so effectively deliver?
