National RMT Union to fight staff cuts at Victoria Tube

A LEAKED report from London Underground reveals cuts could leave just two front-line staff manning Victoria Tube station, union bosses claim.

The National RMT trade union condemned the proposals set out in the report, titled Minimum Staffing Levels, claiming they would ­create a major safety issue in the event of a fire or emergency.

Currently Victoria Tube station – the capital’s busiest with 76 million passengers a year – is manned by 12 frontline staff who are in direct contact with passengers and are responsible for overseeing evacuations.

The proposals contained in the report would axe posts at sub-surface Tube stations with 70 out of 116  across London reduced to a minimum level of just two staff.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “RMT is committed to fighting these plans.”
