A solicitor died after his motorbike clipped the edge of a traffic island on his way to work, an inquest has heard Maher Al Daour, 34, originally from the United Arab Emirates, had just accelerated away from a set of lights in Bayswater Road, Bayswater, on August 15 last year.

Visibility was clear and no cars were in the vicinity of Mr Al Daour as he came off his bike, Westminster Coroner’s Court heard.

Mr Al Daour, who lived in Augustus Street, near Hampstead Road, was not speeding, traffic police officers confirmed.

The moment the scooter clipped the kerb of the island, skidding across the road and throwing Mr Al Daour to the ground was captured on the CCTV of a passing bus.

The images, which were shown to the court, revealed that while Mr Al Daour was wearing his helmet, it flew off when his head hit the road for the first time.

He then hit the road a further two times.

He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital but his condition deteriorated and he died of a heart attack in the early hours of August 19.

Assistant deputy coroner Angela Hodes recorded a verdict of accidental death.
