IN a fetching coat, with umbrella held high, Cllr Robert Davis took centre-stage at the New Year’s Day parade as he embraced the leading role of Mary Poppins.
Westminster Council’s float depicting the classic tale of the magical nanny won first prize out of all the London boroughs, embracing the “Lights Camera Action” theme.
They scooped the top prize of £10,000 which will be split between the mayor’s chosen charities, the Sir Simon Milton Foundation and Greenhouse Sports.
Also taking part in the parade was council leader-elect Nickie Aiken and Cllr Jacqui Wilkinson. Dressed as suffragettes, they were joined by members of the Sylvia Young Theatre School.
The council members took part with thousands of others on the route around London, bringing in 2017 with music, dancing and all manner of vibrant performances.
Cllr Davis said: “The London New Year’s Day Parade is always a highlight of the year.
“We look forward to defending our title in 2018.”
