WORD reaches me that there has been a last-minute addition to the Kilburn Film Festival, and a very welcome one at that.
Screening at the Kingsgate Community Centre, Beauty, Transience and Sensuality is Helen Chadwick’s 1991 film about the artist Frida Kahlo who drew on the folk art of Mexico and her European roots to create quite stunning images. This movie charting her life is definitely worth a look. The theme of the festival this year is Mexico, helping to celebrate the country’s 200th anniversary of independence from Spain, and the film is being screened on Friday July 9, 6-9pm.
I also hear that next week the debut screening of a very NW5 movie is due to held across the Irish Sea at the Galway Film Festival. Called Come On Eileen, it boasts the Mighty Boosh crew, including Noel Fielding, and also stars Gospel Oak born-and-bred actress Mercedes Grower. I’ll keep you posted when it’s getting some air time in our hood.
Meanwhile, readers of this column will know how much I love the Prince Charles theatre off Leicester Square, and here is yet another reason why. Launching next week, they are showing a series called Sunday Night Classics, kicking off with Sunset Boulevard followed by Kiss Me Deadly. Later in the season The Good, the Bad and the Ugly hits the big screen.
That’s some super hot Sunday night action. Check their website for details: www.princecharlescinema.com
