• Wild Grass - Directed by Alain Resnais - Certificate: 12a
WHEN this film premiered at Cannes last year, there was much chitter-chatter that the director was 87.
Some prize-giving jurists felt this was a reason to promote its virtues, while others mumbled that Grandpa should have retired years ago.
Both attitudes do a great disservice to a director who has consistently made interesting films in a long career.
Wild Grass is a story about a lost wallet and a burgeoning relationship between the finder and owner.
Well shot, well told, the only reason for the director’s age to be of interest is the fact he has clearly drawn on a lifetime’s experience to create a thoughtful take on the nature of relationships.
