CLASSICAL music is being played at the Kenwood Picnic Concerts this Saturday evening.

Forty years ago, when I was a regular Kenwood concert-goer, the whole season was devoted to classical music played without amplification.

Now classical music is restricted to easy-listening, with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

On this occasion, though, it’s not so much Vivaldi that’s the draw as the highly talented violin soloist Diana Yukawa (pictured) playing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

She took up playing the violin when she was five and, still only 24, she’s become an international star playing at top venues all over the world.

Now living in Paddington, she has sought to develop an innovative modern style of violin playing – and Kenwood picnickers should be in for a treat listening to her violin style in the Vivaldi.
