SOME of Hampstead finest musicians are taking part in the Proms at St Jude’s festival in Hampstead Garden Suburb later this month.
Hampstead cellist Robert Max is conducting the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra at the Opening Night concert on Saturday June 19.
The recital on Tuesday June 22 is being given by Hampstead pianist John Lill, arguably the country’s finest classical pianist.
The Last Night of the Proms on Saturday June 27 will see the inimitable Hampstead Garden Suburb resident Robert Cohen play Schumann’s cello concerto with the Southbank Sinfonia.
But the St Jude Proms are not all classical music by any means.Music from the Silver Screen on Wednesday June 23 will feature well-known tunes from such films as Indiana Jones, Psycho, 633 Sqadron, Pirates of the Caribbean and
A Chorus Line and there’s jazz later in the week.
There will also be some excellent free lunchtime concerts, including an accordian recital by Ksenija Sidorova; chamber music played by the Hampden String Quartet’s programme; and a violin/piano recital given by acclaimed duo Litza Tunna violin and Alissa Tavdidishvili piano.
