OPERA fans need to beat a path to St Pancras Parish Church in Euston Road next Thursday lunchtime to catch powerful mezzo-soprano Carol Rowlands.

She’s been in the world of opera for almost 30 years, singing initially with the Scottish Opera chorus before embarking on a busy freelance career as a soloist.

Working with most of the major British companies and singing in Europe and the United States, she’s won plaudits for her performances in a wide variety of roles.

These include Babulenka in Prokofiev’s The Gambler; Mrs Gorse in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw; Judy in Birtwistle’s Punch and Judy and Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte.

She’s also sung in cabaret and in various light music ensembles. Expect her recital next Thursday to be varied, lively, fun and enthralling.
