The Miles Davis Project Band is back at St James’s Piccadilly tomorrow evening (Friday), with a reverential recreation of the music played by the US jazz trumpeter’s First Great Quintet in the 1955-58 period.
Jazz played by the quintet was acclaimed at the time and seen as as an outstanding an amazing comeback by Miles following his years of drug addiction.
Arrangements played at the St James’s concert seek to be completely accurate reproductions of the quintet’s recordings.
Concert items include Round Midnight, My Funny Valentine, All of You, Tadd’s Delight and Bye Bye Blackbird.
And the band’s personnel are Joe Auckland as Miles on trumpet (pictured above) and Nathan Hassall as young John Coltrane on tenor sax, together with John Turville on piano, Ben Basin on bass and Eric Ford as the inimitable “Philly” Joe Jones on drums.
