GREAT jazz from the 1920s and 1930s is to be played by multi-award winning band Paris Washboard at The Bloomsbury Theatre tomorrow (Friday).

The band’s repertoire includes some of the most famed jazz sounds and pieces by such musicians as Fats Waller, James P Johnson, Art Tatum, Jelly Roll Morton and Duke Ellington.

Formed nigh on 20 years ago, the band plays classic New Orleans/ Dixieland/ Chicago Jazz in a style that has won plaudits around the world.

It’s made up of four instruments: clarinet, trombone, piano and washboard – key player being Louis Mazetier, one of the world’s finest stride pianists.

The band is being brought from Paris by impresario Maggie Black, who has regular events worth checking out.

These include a free Monday afternoon slot at Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden; a fortnightly Sunday afternoon gig at The Source Below; and occasional bookings at The Pheasantry, King’s Road.
