• ISLINGTON'S Rosemary Branch Theatre is to host a night of new 10-minute plays written by MA students at City University. The five shorts, all directed by Tom Latter, include The Great Balderoni by Andrew Johnson – the title piece in the series, about a high wire walker who gets stuck halfway across Niagara Falls while pushing his wife in a wheelbarrow. The set of plays will get two outings on July 13 – an early show (6.30-8pm) and a late show (8.30-10pm). For tickets (£5) call 020 7704 6665.
• Look out for the Tower Theatre Company’s next production, Bombshells, which opens at the Bridewell Theatre on July 6. The play, a series of monologues about the stresses of being a modern woman, was described as “a rare combination of comedy, truth and rapture” by the Guardian when it was first performed. This is the first time an all female team of new directors have taken the reins in a TTC production. Cast members include Hampstead-based Stephanie Potschke. Bombshells is at the Bridewell Theatre, Bride Lane off Fleet Street, EC4 from July 6-10. For tickets (£11, £9 concs) call 020 7353 1700.
• Opening at the King’s Head Theatre in Upper Street this week is Bubba and Luvvie – an “energetic, wild” two-hander about two flawed individuals who meet on a clifftop and bare their souls to each another. It stars Mia Soteriou (Mike Leigh, David Cronenberg, Mama Mia) and Gerard McDermott (Calendar Girls, Whistle Down the Wind). Its writer, Angus Strachan, has been described as posessing “an almost surreal degree of edgy creativity”).
For tickets call 0844 209 0326.
The show is on at the King’s Head Theatre, 115 Upper Street, N1,
from July 7-August 8.
